Loving Home Care Services was founded by Liliana Purgal in 1994.
Under the direction and management of Liliana Purgal, the organization quickly expanded in the early years from a one person locally owned and operating business, to a successful full-service agency with an experienced team of Home Care Assistants, Certified Care-Aides, Licensed Practical Nurses, Registered Nurses and Administrative Staff. For many of the early years, Liliana Purgal was the sole manager of the company where she enthusiastically undertook the responsibility of caring for the clientele. As the aging population grew, the company expanded to meet the needs of those who wanted to live at home for as long as possible. To date, the company has serviced over 3000 clients on the North Shore and Greater Vancouver area.
To understand the present and future, one must take a look at the past.
Liliana Purgal and her family were born and raised in Poland. The 1980’s were a time of political and economic turmoil in Poland as the country moved from Communism to Solidarity government. The economic and political situation was so severe that Liliana along with her husband was forced to leave and look for new beginnings. This was not an easy road.
The dangerous journey began first by escaping the Communist regime and arriving by train to Berlin. Two years were spent in a refugee camp with an 8-month old son in tow. The commitment to a new life was strong and the family was going to do whatever it took. This attitude led to opportunities to care for the elderly in Berlin. Liliana Purgal took advantage of nursing and health training programs in Berlin and also began to look for a new home for the family across the ocean. Canada opened their doors and the family left for new beginnings. Like so many before her and after her, the incredible feeling of freedom, the glow of opportunity and the feeling of a new life was almost overwhelming.
From Winnipeg to several other cities, the family found their permanent home in the Vancouver area. They jumped in with both feet. From restaurant jobs to business ventures, the family pushed forward always thankful and always looking for ways to give back.
Feeling a very strong compassion for people and knowing what was like to not have a home, Liliana Purgal took more training in Canada in the areas of health and management. She continued to work in the home health care sector and was continually recognized by doctors, nurses and social workers for providing personal dedication and professional care. The combination of her training and additional Canadian experience enabled Liliana Purgal to found Loving Home Care Services in 1994.
The business was envisioned on helping people live better at home, and that hasn’t changed. Liliana knows what it’s like to not have a home and then have a new home in Canada. She wants all her clients (and their families) to have that feeling of being at home in their own home for as long as they can.
The mission statement says it best: We believe nothing is like a place called home and we work to build on that belief with our clients and staff, every day.
There is a powerful passion at Loving Home Care Services that can only come from one place. That place is the deeply understood feeling of what home is all about.
